DESCRIPTION:Listos is a basic emergency and disaster readiness public education program for Spanish-speaking populations with a grass-roots approach. \nABOUT\nThe Listos program is comprised of a series of discussions which: \n\nAre organized by community members for the benefit of their own community\nPresent the basic ideas of preparedness in 4 consecutive discussions\nEmpower participants to educate their personal networks\nConsider cultural sensitivities and time constraints\nUtilizes an interactive discussion learning environment\n\nHISTORY\nListos was a direct result of an Aware & Prepare Initiative roundtable discussion between community leaders and community based organizations that work with Non-English Speaking populations. The topic of the discussion was “NonEnglish Speaking Populations in Emergency and Disaster Situations. As a follow-up to this roundtable\, and since the specific area of Spanish speakers and disaster preparedness was scarcely being addressed\, Aware & Prepare initiated the development of a basic community readiness pilot program for Spanish speaking populations. \nMODEL\nListos was modeled after various programs including a Spanish-language community readiness class that was hosted in Carpinteria\, the Promotores program\, the Community Emergency Response Team curriculum and a grass-roots approach at reaching populations through trusted networks. The goal of this program is to provide very basic resources to Latino populations for emergency readiness in an environment which they feel comfortable within. \nCURRICULUM \n\nIdentifying Vulnerabilities\nCreating Reunification and Communication plan\nImportant Document Back-Up\nUtilities Shut-Off\nFire Extinguisher Use\nFirst Aid\nDisaster Medicine\nTeam Organization\nEmotional Support\n\n
